Whiplash

Whiplash is an injury to the soft tissue of the neck that occurs when the head is suddenly jerked backwards. The most common cause of whiplash is an automobile accident, but is also common with contact sports such as hockey, football, and boxing. Chiropractic care can help with whiplash pain. Studies show that it is the most effective in the first 3 months. Chiropractic care helps loosen stiff joints in the neck and loosens tight muscles. Chiropractic can be an effective treatment for all stages of whiplash.

When a sudden accident or injury hurls your neck backward and forward, your neck gets thrown out of balance. The force can damage parts of your neck and reverse its natural curve. Whiplash injuries may be complicated by fractures or dislocations. Sometimes symptoms aren't felt until days, weeks or months after whiplash has occurred. Symptoms are not isolated to the neck and pain can be felt in the shoulders, hands, arms, and low back. Treatment focuses on restoring the proper function of the neck.

Symptoms:

  • Headaches
  • Stiffness
  • Mild dizziness
  • Problems thinking or remembering
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Jaw pain
  • Low back and hip pain
